Mr. Watson had been confined to his house for several weeks past by a severe attack of typhoid fever, but his death was very sudden and unexpected. He was apparently improving slowly, and was able to sit up a portion of the time. On Friday night, however, he had a relapse, and sank rapidly until his death.
Mr. Watson was born in Greensboro, Caroline county, Maryland, March 24, 1825. After receiving a common-school education, he studied law and was admitted to the bar at the age of twenty-one. He soon afterwards began the practice of his profession at Greensboro, and continued it until the time of his election to Congress, in 1878. He represented Caroline county for several terms in the State legislature, and during the late war he was a warm and active supporter of the Government.
Mr. Watson was a man of sterling integrity and ability. He was a useful member of the House of Representatives, and his death will be deeply regretted by his colleagues and friends.
